A5 Next
The A5 Next is the latest model from Lely robotic milking, superseding the A5 in June 2025. The most significant upgrade here is the introduction of camera technology working in conjunction with the laser system.
Routing
It is available in a right- or left-handed version, to suit your farm layout but Lely only promote free access systems. Grazing is also an option using their grazeway gate.
Entry and exit
The A5 Next is branded as I flow with entry from the rear and exiting straight out at the front, thanks to their folding manger system.
Identification
There are options for cow identification via ear tag or collar, with the latter having options of heat and health monitoring.
Arm technology
Milking is from the side using the hybrid arm with camera and laser technology combined for teat location.
Teat preparation and attachment
Preparation is carried out with brushes before the cups are attached.Post milking teat disinfection is carried out by the arm, which sprays each teat individually.
Backflush
The milking cups are cleaned with a cold water backflush between milkings with the additional option of using steam, branded as Pura.
Milk quality monitoring
Milk quality is assessed by Lely's branded MQC2, which provides quarter conductivity, blood detection, cell count and constituent monitoring. This, in turn, links to the Horizon software package and app
Batch milking
Unlike the other manufacturers, Lely do not promote batch milking, but they have Astronaut Max for larger herds.
Astronaut Max
Astronaut Max is new from Lely for 2025 and is aimed purely at large herds.
The Max has exactly the same features as the A5 Next, except it centralises the milk delivery lines and includes a separate wash line. So, milking and cleaning can be performed independently of each other, which means the milking robots can remain operational during service and robot cleaning.
