The A5 is the latest model from Lely, superseding The A4 in 2017.One of the main upgrades here was the introduction of a hybrid arm, operating with with a combination of electric motors and compressed air.
Routing
It is available in right or left handed versions, to suit your farm layout but Lely only promote free access systems. Grazing is also an option using their grazeway gate.
Entry and Exit
The A5 is branded as I flow with entry from the rear and exiting straight out at the front ,thanks to their folding manger system.
Identification:
There are options for cow identification via ear tag or collar, with the latter having options of heat and health monitoring.
Arm Technology:
Milking is from the side using the hybrid arm and laser technology for teat location.
Teat Preparation and Attachment:
Preparation is carried out with brushes before the cups are attached with laser technology.Post milking teat disinfection is carried out by the arm which sprays each teat individually.
Backflush:
The milking cups are cleaned with a cold water backflush between milkings with the additional option of using steam, branded as Pura.
Milk Quality Monitoring:
Milk quality is assessed by Lely's branded MQC2 which can provide quarter conductivity, blood detection, cell count and constituent monitoring. This in turn, all links to the Horizon software package and app
Batch Milking:
Unlike the other manufacturers Lely do not promote batch milking, but they have a Dairy XL department which will advise on bespoke layouts for larger units.
